SIMULATION OF OCCUPANT KINEMATICS IN LOW SPEED REAR-ENDED VEHICLE COLLISION

Individual Project Requirements:
To simulate occupant dynamics in a car during the collision.
Procedure:
First the occupant's free body diagram was drawn:
The intial force F was calculated using a restitution coefficient of C=0.2. Research was done to find out human's body characteristics:

Next, the tranform functions were derived for each body part - torso, neck and head.
Calculated angular accelerations of each occupant's body part, right after collision at v=4m/s are shown below:
